What to Pack for Ao Nang & Krabi

Light packing list for capsule hostels, boats, heat, and the odd monsoon shower.

Capsule hostel essentials

Our dorms have AC, privacy curtains, personal sockets, and free towels, soap, and shampoo — so you can travel lighter than a full hotel packing list. Still bring a lock for lockers if you have one, a light sleep layer for strong AC, and flip-flops for showers.

  • Quick-dry clothes and one nicer evening outfit for the strip
  • Reef-safe sunscreen, after-sun, and a reusable water bottle
  • Power bank + universal adapter (Thailand runs on 230 V and several plug types are in use)
  • Dry bag for phones on boat days

Beach & island days

Ao Nang beach is about a 15-minute walk from The Hangout (or five minutes by moto). Pack swimwear, a rash guard if you burn easily, and shoes you can get sandy. For Railay or island hops, a small daypack beats dragging your whole bag.

If you come in green season

Add a compact rain jacket or poncho and a backup outfit sealed in a dry sack. Humidity is high year-round — cotton and linen beat heavy denim.

Documents & money

Passport, travel insurance details, and a card that works abroad. Banks and ATMs are along Ao Nang Road. Screenshot your Hostelworld or Booking.com confirmation in case offline check-in is smoother after a long flight.

What you can skip (we provide it)

Capsule dorms at The Hangout include towels, soap, and shampoo — leave the bulky towel at home if you are packing light. Lockers are available; bring a small padlock if you have one. Strong AC means a light long-sleeve or thin sleep layer is more useful than a heavy hoodie.

Quick FAQ

Do I need to bring a towel to The Hangout?
No — towels, soap, and shampoo are provided free in the capsule dorms. Pack light and reclaim bag space for reef-safe sunscreen and a dry bag.
What shoes work best in Ao Nang?
Flip-flops for beach and showers, plus one pair of trainers or light hiking shoes for viewpoints and scooter days. Avoid packing only dress shoes — heat and sand win.
